Fila Flounce and Brooks PR Mesh Review

In my last post I mentioned my two new skirts.... As expected, one was awesome and the other not so much.

This is the pink Fila Flounce skirt, that I wanted to love. I am a true girly girl so a hot pink running skirt could do no wrong, and then I went for a run and was disappointed. It was a good length for me and the color was awesome, but it did not stand up on my run. I did a 3 mile run and had to pull the shorts under the skirt down every 2 minutes. It was definitely a pain and I probably won't be wearing this skirt on a run again, but will keep it for light walks with the dog or maybe out on the tennis court since my husband wants to take up tennis again.

This second one worked much better for me! It is the Brooks PR Mesh Skort II (sorry it is sideways, Blogger wouldn't let me rotate). It is a great length, about 14" I think and the shorts are a 4.5" inseam. This is a perfect length for me since I am tall and have larger thighs, so the skirt covers just fine. The shorts also have the silicone gripper along the hem which prevents riding up while your running, which is one of my biggest problems with running skirts and shorts. I wore this on a 3 mile run and I think I only had to adjust it once, which is perfectly fine with me. This skort is a keeper and right now Brooks Running has some on sale on their website, so I am tempted to grab the eggplant color as well.

Skirts!

So, on Tuesday and Wednesday I decided to go to the gym and hit the treadmill. I did 2.5 miles both days, at a decent pace. 2.5 miles might seem like nothing to a lot of people, but it is better than sitting on the couch watching TV all night (which is what I did yesterday). And, considering I haven't run other than the mud run in about a month, this was a fine spot for me. Plus, I am not trying to impress anyone at the gym, just get back in shape and feel good.

Speaking of feeling good, I ordered two running skirts last week and they arrived last night, and I am so excited to try them out! I feel that if you are comfortable when you are working out, you really will have a better workout. The first is the Fila Flounce Skirt, it is actually a tennis skirt. And, the second is the Brooks PR Mesh Skort II.

The Fila skirt is hot pink, and if you know me, you know I love pink. Clearly, being fashionable at the gym or on a run through the neighborhood is not the first priority. But, I might as well like what I am wearing and if a pink skirt makes me feel good, then so be it! I am excited to try this one out, though when I tried it on last night I couldn't determine if the shorts under the skirt would ride up, I guess I will find out tonight when I go for a run. If they don't then there is a good change of more colors being added to my collection, for only $24 on 6pm.com how could I say no.

The Brooks skort might end up becoming my favorite. It fits well, is long enough (which is super important to me since I am 5'11") and has rubber gripping on the hem of the shorts so they stay in place. I think I will try these out on Saturday and will let you know what I think! Have a great weekend!

Mud Runs

Over the weekend my husband completed the Old Ironsides Mud Challenge. He did great and I was very proud of him! Granted, he is an officer in the Army and is in good shape so I didn't have a doubt in my mind that he would do well. I on the other hand did not sign up for this one, which was a 4 mile run with 13 (very hard) obstacles. I knew I just wasn't in good enough shape for all of that yet, but I was his official photographer and got up bright and early to support him.

The weekend before was a different story, as we completed the Run the Jailbreak together. This was a 5k run with 17 obstacles and I felt like I couldn't finish toward the end, but I crossed the finish line, which was my only goal. I have done 5ks in the past and they aren't usually something I am worried about finishing, because I know I can. However, when you throw 17 obstacles in there, that is a whole different beast.

So, like I said, I crossed the finish line, with a lot of encouragement from my husband and I was so glad we did it! He was great and stayed with me the whole time, even if I was going as slow as possible and wanted to give up. He was there to push me and make sure I crossed that finish. We had so much fun that the following Monday I planned most of the races that we will do for the rest of the year, unless more are published and we add some to our list. I cannot wait to complete more races and mud runs throughout the year and see what we can accomplish!

Hello!!!

Hi all! My name is Gaby and I am new to the blogging world but I am very excited to share my adventure with you! First off, I will tell you a little bit about myself. I am a 25 year old army wife who works for a financial firm (from home, lucky me!) and I am loving life. I love spending time with my wonderful husband and our puppy-baby, Jimmy, shopping, cooking, traveling and a new found/rekindled love of running.

I wanted to start this blog to document my journey of getting fit and loving it! I have gained about 40 pounds since my college graduation in 2009, which I am certainly not happy about. So, instead of being upset, I have finally decided that I am going to do something about it. I am taking up running and I could not be more excited.

There was a point in my life, about 4 years ago where I would run 4-5 miles a day about 4 times a week. I loved the shape I was in and loved the way I felt. There is just something about running that clears the head and makes you a happier person. I want that feeling back and I want to feel that great about myself again. (and I want to run a half marathon come fall!!!) I am not beginning this adventure trying to look like a supermodel, but just to achieve my own greatness in life. I want to be back at running those 4-5 miles a day, and then achieve more, because I know I can. I hope you enjoy my stories about that journey, and I would love if you shared some of your own stories with me, we can be on this journey together!
